Montreal Sisters Halaqa | Launch [22.01.2012]

At this Sisters Halaqa specifically, we will gather on a weekly basis to achieve the following:

- create a social support network & a place for sisterhood to grow
- improve our character & our connection with Allah [SWT]
- increase our Imaan & knowledge of Islam
...inshaAllah!

This halaqa is open to all Muslim sisters, regardless of age, who are serious about learning more about the beautiful religion of Islam in an inclusive, nurturing, and dynamic environment.
Our Goal
We are all at the beginners' stage when it comes to Islamic knowledge. At this halaqa we will strive to grow together to become stronger Muslimahs, inshaAllah. We aim to engage with one another in sharing Islamic knowledge, as well as other important and pertinent topics through a process of open dialogue and reflection.

A Welcoming Space for New Muslims
Another important goal at this halaqa is to provide a place for sisters that have recently accepted Islam. With the idea of Ta'leef [Usama Canon's project] in mind, of "shifting away from the hit and miss, hodge-podge outreach and care for new Muslims", we are creating an environment of mutual collaboration, understanding, trust, companionship, and respect. Everyone is more than welcome!

Why Should You Join?
Why not? :) We spend the majority of our lives engrossed in our day to day activities - dealing with school, family, and work...but how much time do we commit to Islam?

Knowledge, education, and learning have a big place in Islam. The first verse to be revealed by Allah [SWT] was 'Iqra' in Surah 96, which translates to 'read' or 'recite'. This command in itself portrays the importance of 'reading' and educating ourselves as Muslims. Although this halaqa is not an alternative to a proper Islamic education, it will serve as a stepping stone and a source of knowledge, inshaAllah.

*If you will be attending the halaqa, please let us know by emailing us at montrealsistershalaqa@gmail.com
